Well, I was aware that drag racing can be hazardous to your health, but until today, I didn't realize that FrostBite was one of those hazards.
Got to the track about 9:00 am. Temp was 42 degrees and climbing. Don't know what happened, but when I went under the tower, things were just fine. As I was sittng in the box, I thought I saw snow flakes, but then again, maybe is was just debris from the wind. Staged and launched, and by the time I crossed the finish line, it was like a full blown blizzard.
So, while things are shut down for weather, I figure I would take the scooter down to tech and get it registered as our pit vehicle. Lots of young guys are walking around with parkas, and stocking caps on. Thought I would show them the old guy could handle the cold in nothing more than jeans and a T-shirt. Big Mistake. The ride down to tech was ok, but coming back, the wind picked up big time, and I am riding right into it, and the snow was like a thousand little needles hitting my face.
Anyway, got just that one time run in. Effective altitude was at 5354, temp was 36 with a 13 mph head wind. The physical altitude of the track is 5800 feet, and normally during the season, effective altitude is always 8,000 or more, and sometimes as much as 11,000 feet.
I ran a 10.189 at 134.070. I was shooting for 10.0's, but I might have been a little lean, and the track was very cold. My 60' time sucked at 1.5 something, over a tenth off normal. I also took some off the launce to try and offset the cold (good) air, and shifted a llittle early.
All in all, we are happy so far. We wanted to slow it by .75 seconds to stay legal 10 second and slower, and we did that. I think there is enough margin in our times to keep us legal, but will need some more passes in "regular Bandimere Air"
We'll have to wait two weeks before we get another pass, but that's ok. We wanted to scale back our racing so that we could do other things, and now, we will have plenty of time to do something else.
